Peoria Rivermen News Release

ABBOTSFORD, BC - In a game that looked like a 3-1 win for the Rivermen with five minutes to play, it took a Bryce Lampman goal with only 62 seconds remaining to give Peoria a 4-3 win over the Abbotsford Heat. The win extended Peoria's season-long winning streak to five games and pushed the Rivermen into sole possession of second place, just seven points back of Texas.

Lampman finished with two goals and an assist but was also in the penalty box when the Heat tied the game at 17:56 of the third period. Jason Jaffray slammed home a rebound just 2:35 after Mikael Backlund's power-play goal put the Heat within a goal. The game-winner came even-strength with Danny Richmond feeding Lampman in the right circle. The defenseman blasted a slap shot past Leland Irving for his second of the night and sixth of the season.

Peoria took control of the first period in their first-ever trip to the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. They outshot the Heat 10-4 and had a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Julian Talbot scored his seventh goal of the season with the Rivermen on the power play at 15:46. Lampman setup Lars Eller for a one-timer and Talbot tipped it on its way through Irving. Talbot has now scored five times in his last eight games.

Barry Tallackson had a chance to increase the Rivermen lead after he was pulled down on a shorthanded breakaway just 2:08 into the second period. He was awarded the first penalty of the season for a Rivermen player but was stopped by Irving after he tried to shoot under his glove.

The Heat tied the game for a stretch of 1:11 during the second period when Cam Cunning notched his fifth of the year. His rebound goal came at 13:20 and Aaron Palushaj's breakaway at 14:31 gave Peoria back the lead. Pascal Pelletier sprung Palushaj behind the defense and after a great fake tucked a shot inside the far post for his third of the season.

Peoria took a 3-1 lead at 16:45, again on the power play, courtesy of Lampman. Richmond slid the puck to Lampman who crept into the circle before wristing home his fifth of the year.

Both teams finished with 32 penalty minutes and were two-for-six on the power play.

Hannu Toivonen was strong in net and picked up his first road win of the season. He improved to 7-7-1 on the season with his second of back-to-back wins.
