Albany River Rats News Release
SYRACUSE, NY- River Rats Center Stefan Chaput scored the game winner in the second period and goaltender Mike Murphy stopped 37-of-39 shots faced as Albany downed the Syracuse Crunch 5-2 Saturday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
Chaput's power play tally gave Albany a 3-0 lead at 6:26 of the second period, but Crunch forward Tomas Kana put Syracuse on the board just over a minute later and Bates Battaglia brought his club to within a goal at 10:04.
Matthew Pistilli ripped one past Crunch goalie Kevin Lalande at 5:44 of the third period and Zach Boychuk reclaimed Albany's three goal lead with a highlight reel worthy move at 6:56, to let Albany coast to its eighth win in its last nine games.
Brad Herauf scored his first goal of the season just 2:57 into the contest, and Jacob Micflikier doubled Albany's lead at 5:07 on a tic-tac-toe play from Chris Terry and Nick Dodge.
Murphy earned his seventh win of the season as Albany improved to 18-11-1-2. Lalande stopped 34-of-39 shots faced and took the loss as the Crunch fell to 10-17-2-2. Both teams registered 39 shots in the game and the River Rats went 1-for-5 on the man-advantage; Syracuse was 0-for-3 on the power play.
