Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES - RHP Stephen Fife was activated off the disabled list today and will make the start for the Iowa Cubs against El Paso, tonight at Principal Park.

Fife, 29, began the season in the I-Cubs' starting rotation, but was removed during his second start of the season on April 13 after straining his right side and has spent the last month rehabbing in Mesa. Through his two starts with Iowa, Fife threw to a 0-1 record with a 4.91 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched. He issued four walks, six strikeouts and held batters to a .250 average.

Fife's last three seasons were marred with injury as he was limited to 32 starts and 35 total appearances through 2013 and 2014, while missing all of 2015 after undergoing Tommy John surgery on Aug. 13, 2014.

This is Fife's first season in the Cubs' organization as he signed a minor league deal with the club in December 2015. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2008 draft and was traded to the Dodgers at the July 31 trade deadline in 2011.

LHP Scott Barnes was placed on the disabled list, making room for Fife on Iowa's active roster. OF Shane Victorino also was removed from Iowa's roster today.
