Reno Aces News Release
NEW ORLEANS - The Reno Aces used a four-run ninth inning to take the opener of a four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs by a 6-2 score on Monday night at Zephyr Field. Reno now has won four of its last five road games after going 4-11 in its first 15 contests away from The Biggest Little City.
Aces starter Braden Shipley (@shipley25) matched zeroes with New Orleans lefty Chris Reed for six innings before Reno scored the game's first run in the seventh against reliever Andre Rienzo. Jack Reinheimer (@Reinheimer_08) led off the inning with a double to left field, advancing to third on a pair of walks before Todd Glaesmann (@ToddGlaesmann22) drove in the shortstop on a sacrifice fly.
The Zephyrs answered immediately against Reno reliever Matt Stites (@matt_stites), as Destin Hood drew a leadoff walk to set up a game-tying RBI double by Tomás Telis. Two batters later, Isaac Galloway gave New Orleans a 2-1 lead with a run-scoring single to center.
Reno (20-23) evened the contest at two runs apiece in the eighth. Peter O'Brien led off the frame with a triple off the wall in center to bring up Kyle Jensen, who roped an RBI base hit to left to tie the game. The Aces' momentum continued in the ninth as they scored four runs during a two-out rally. Jensen, Sócrates Brito (@SocratesBrito) and Reinheimer all knocked run-scoring base hits in the frame, and a New Orleans fielding error on the shortstop's stolen base allowed Brito to come home, making the score 6-2 and producing the final margin.
Jensen led the way for Reno offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored and notching his third multi-RBI game in his last four contests. Reinheimer had a pair of hits to record his 15th multi-hit game, which ranks second on the team (O'Brien - 16). Glaesmann's single to lead off the game extended his hitting streak to nine games dating back to May 12.
Shipley did not factor in the decision after he allowed three hits over six scoreless innings with no walks and eight strikeouts. He has walked just one batter and struck out 22 in his last four starts dating back to May 6, working 24.0 innings over that span. Dominic Leone (@dleone54) issued a walk during a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win and improve to 2-0. Craig Breslow (0-1) took to loss for New Orleans (19-24) after he allowed five earned runs on six hits over 1 2/3 innings with one free pass.
The Aces and Zephyrs continue their four-game series on Tuesday, with game two set for 4:00 p.m. PT. Reno will send left-hander Edwin Escobar (1-1, 6.16) to the mound, opposite Zephyrs right-hander Jarred Cosart (1-2, 5.79).
