
Fien Returns Favor with Extra-Inning Win

APPLETON, WI - On Sunday, Casey Fien suffered his first loss of the season as the Whitecaps pitcher made a bad throw to third in the tenth inning that led to a Wisconsin win. On Tuesday, Fien picked up a win over the Timber Rattlers in eleven innings as West Michigan prevailed, 6-3.
Ryan Strieby delivered a two out, two run double to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the eleventh inning. The âCaps added a run when Strieby from second on the second error of the night committed by third baseman Alex Liddi.
Fien pitched a perfect tenth inning and improved to 6-1 while Dan Fyvie retired the side in order in the bottom of the eleventh to earn his first save as a Whitecap.
West Michigan pitchers combined to retire the final 15 Wisconsin batters of the game.
Jonah Nickerson threw the first nine innings for West Michigan. He allowed three runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts and no walks allowed. A streak of 26 consecutive scoreless inning s came to an end for Nickerson when he allowed a two run homer by Gavin Dickey with two out in the third. The two run shot represented the first runs allowed by Nickerson since July 22 at Burlington.
The Whitecaps record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched remains at 31.1 and is held by Greg Romo who compiled the streak in May of 1998.
Jeramy Laster put West Michigan on top, 3-2 in the sixth inning with a 410-foot opposite field home run. Following the two run shot, Wisconsin pitchers retired the next 15 Whitecaps batters.
West Michigan finished the road trip 7-1.
Liddi committed all three errors for the Timber Rattlers.
