Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (August 14, 2007) - Brady Everett's three-run home run in the first inning, but the Burlington Bees (26-24, 56-63) never scored again and the Dayton Dragons (25-26, 69-52) came back for a 5-3 win at Community Field tonight. The Bees missed a chance to sweep the four-game series and ended the Bees' four-game winning streak. The Bees did finish 6-2 on this home stand and split the season series 4-4 against Dayton.

Everett's home run came against Daniel Guerrero (3-3) who settled in to work through six innings and get the win. He allowed ten hits, but no walks and stranded five men on base. Misael DeJesus followed with two scoreless innings to set up Ramon Geronimo who finished the ninth inning for his eleventh save. Derrick Robinson and Joe Dickerson each had three hits for the Bees, but all six were singles. Just two of the Bees' 13 hits in the game went for extra bases.

The Dragons came back against Bees' starter Jason Godin (4-4) in the second. With one out, Drew Stubbs singled and with a running start on a 3-2 pitch, scored all the way from first on a single to right-center by Carson Kainer. In the third inning, the Dragons had the bases loaded with two outs when Stubbs singled to left to drive in another run. It could've been two, but Dickerson threw out Logan Parker trying to go to third before Juan Francisco got to the plate.

In the fourth, the Dragons put together a two-out rally that started with a walk to Eddy Rodriguez. Zach Cozart followed with a single. Keltavious Jones followed with a fly ball to right that looked like it would be the final out of the inning, but the ball drifted back to the warning track and Jamar Walton jumped in front of the wall but missed it, allowing two runs to score and giving the Dragons their first lead at 4-3. The Dragons added their final run in the fifth. With two outs, Stubbs reached on an infield single, and Godin left in favor of Aaron Hartsock. Hartsock's pickoff attempt at first went down the line at first for an error that allowed Stubbs to get to second. Kainer followed with another base hit to right that drove in Stubbs for the Dragons final run. Hartsock got out of the inning in time to make the run charged to Godin unearned. He went on to pitch work 2.1 scoreless innings. Ryan DiPietro finished the final two innings in relief and struck out four.
