Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton , OH - The Cincinnati Reds have moved C Tony Esquer, who had been splitting time with Eddy Rodriguez behind the plate, to the Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League. The domino effect began at the Major League level when the Reds placed David Ross on the DL with a concussion. In 52 games with the Dragons, Esquer hit .217 with 18 RBI. The 24th round selection of the Reds in the 2006 First Year Player Draft had two stints on the DL with the Dragons in 2007, one for a sprained ankle and the other for an injured thumb.

Esquer's place on the Dragons roster will be filled by C Jake Long, who will join the Dragons from the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. Long, a 37th round selection by the Reds in 2006 had a brief stint with the Dragons earlier this season. In two games with the Dragons Long was hitless in five at bats. With the Mustangs in 30 games, Long hit .275 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. He will be in uniform for the Dragons in the team's Tuesday night game at Burlington.
