
Festa Dazzles, Kernels Shut Out in South Bend

South Bend, IN - Cedar Rapids righthander David Festa struck out eight over 6.0 scoreless innings but the Kernels lineup mustered just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the South Bend Cubs on Thursday evening. The shutout loss is the first suffered by the Kernels this season as they fall to 35-19.
Festa was dominant over his 6.0 innings of work, scattering four hits and a walk while throwing 57 strikes on 80 pitches. The righthander worked at a 78.3% first-pitch strike rate and piled up 13 whiffs on the night on his way to eight strikeouts.
South Bend starter Joe Nahas hung with Festa with 6.0 scoreless frames of his own, holding the Kernels to just a pair of hits while walking two. The Cubs plated both their runs on a two-run single in the eighth inning.
Game four of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. ET on Friday in South Bend.
