Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Peoria, Illinois - The Quad Cities River Bandits claimed their first shutout victory of the season on Wednesday night, blanking the Peoria Chiefs 9-0 at Dozer Park.
The Bandits scored the opening run of the game for the first time in eight contests and led 3-0 after the first innings, as an RBI single by Luca Tresh, a Kale Emshoff RBI double, and a sacrifice-fly off the bat of Herard Gonzalez gave starter Noah Cameron an early cushion.
After Cameron worked a ten-pitch one-two-three first, Quad Cities chased Chiefs' starter Dionys Rodriguez after just two innings, tagging him for a 5-0 Q.C. lead with Diego Hernandez doubling in a run to extend his on-base streak to 20 games and Tyler Gentry driving him in one pitch later.
In the third, Felix Familia jumped on reliever Enmauel Solano for one, driving an RBI double to center field to put the Bandits up 6-0 after three innings.
On the mound, Cameron faced one over the minimum in his fourth start of the season and ended all but one of his 5.0 innings with a strikeout en route to nine on the ballgame.
Anthony Simonelli took over for the left-hander in the sixth and threw 3.0 innings for his second-longest scoreless outing of the season.
A pair of two-out run-scoring singles off the bats of Morgan McCullough and Tyler Tolbert made it an 8-0 lead for Quad Cities in the seventh and Hernandez added a second RBI in the ninth, but it was more than enough for the bullpen as Simonelli handed the ball to Anderson Paulino for a perfect ninth inning.
Cameron (2-0) earned his second win of the season for Quad Cities, while Rodriguez (1-6) got the loss, allowing five runs in 2.0 innings. Simonelli (2) got credit for a hold out of the Bandits' bullpen.
Quad Cities will look for back-to-back wins on Thursday, sending Eric Cerantola (0-0, 2.45) to the mound against Peoria's Austin Love (2-6, 7.40) at Dozer Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
