LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps saw a 2-1 lead through 7 innings slip away as the Captains rallied with 4 runs in the 8th inning to win, 5-2. But 'Caps starter Robert Gasser wow-ed with 11 strikeouts and 0 walks in 7 innings.

SPECIAL GUESTS: The following representatives of Purdue Athletics are expected to be in attendance tonight - Director of Athletics Mike Bobinski; Deputy AD Ken Halpin; Women's Basketball Head Coach Katie Gearlds; and Women's Volleyball Head Coach Dave Shondell. Their visit is part of the John Purdue Club's "Boilermakers on the Road" tour that's also visiting Indianapolis and Chicago... On Wednesday night, the Northeast Indiana Baseball Association's Dick Crumback Player of the Year, Dalton Wasson of Heritage High School, threw out a ceremonial first pitch and was recognized on the field pregame.

JACK STRONACH: Over the last 2 weeks (May 25-June 8), he's hit a team-leading .371 in 12 games. His .476 OBP and .514 SLG also lead the club (min 10 PA). Stronach was batting .118 heading into May 25, 80 points lower than his average now. Wednesday was Stronach's 5th multi-hit game over this stretch, including his 5th double over the 12 games as well. Stronach said last week that a mechanical change and clearing of his mind at the plate have contributed to the resurgence.

BRANDON VALENZUELA: In his last 9 games, Valenzuela has boosted his average by 30 points (.190 to .220) with 11 hits over that span. He's also hit 2 home runs after only recording 1 (an inside-the-parker) in his first 33 games.

ANGEL SOLARTE: Since being activated from the injured list on June 3, he's 4-for-13 (.308 average). The outfielder has reached base safely in all 4 of his starts in June.

K KINGS: TinCaps pitchers lead the 12-team Midwest League in K/9 (11.29) and total strikeouts (555).

CONTACT: Offensively, the TinCaps have struck out the fewest times in the Midwest League (8.7 per game). Meanwhile, Fort Wayne ranks 3rd in walks drawn (4.1 per game).

CAUGHT 'EM: TinCaps catchers are 2nd in the MWL in caught stealing % behind only Dayton. Fort Wayne's backstops have thrown out 25 of 75 attempted base stealers (35%)... Individually, Brandon Valenzuela leads the league in caught stealings, 17 of 49, while Anthony Vilar has nabbed 7 of 19, and Adam Kerner has caught one as well.

ROAD TO OMAHA: The NCAA Baseball Tournament underway. There are 6 active TinCaps who played in the NCAA Tournament: starting pitchers Ryan Bergert and Jackson Wolf (West Virginia, 2019); reliever Luke Boyd (Baylor, 2017-19); catcher Anthony Vilar (Miami, 2019, '21); infielder Jack Stronach (UCLA, 2017-19); and utility man Lucas Dunn (Louisville, 2018-19)... This year, Dunn's alma mater has advanced to the Super Regional round, along with manager Brian Esposito's UConn Huskies. Vilar's Hurricanes also made the tourney.
