Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Peoria, Illinois - Despite out-hitting the opposition by four, the Quad Cities River Bandits lost their second game of the week to the Peoria Chiefs, dropping game three of a six-game series 6-3 at Dozer Park on Thursday.
Mike Antico helped Peoria jump out to an early 3-0 lead over Bandits' starter Eric Cerantola, who allowed a leadoff homer to the outfielder in the first and then after allowing the next three Chiefs' batters aboard, surrendered a two-run single to Thomas Francisco.
Cerantola's start lasted just 1.2 innings after he departed in the second due to injury, having allowed three runs on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Quad Cities' offense notched nine hits against Peoria starter Austin Love, but didn't push across a run until the fourth when Morgan McCullough drove in Dillan Shrum with his second RBI double in his last two games.
In the bottom of the fourth, Peoria responded against Jack Aldrich, manufacturing a run-on Mack Chamber's sacrifice-fly, however, the River Bandits trimmed the deficit to just one in the fifth, as Kale Emshoff smacked his team-leading eighth homer of the season with a two-run shot that made it 4-3.
That score didn't last for long though, as Peoria tagged Patrick Smith for a run in the sixth on Noah Medlinger's RBI groundout and then the first batter to face Chase Wallace in the seventh, Todd Lott, homered to center.
Over the final four innings, Quad Cities collected a pair of hits and three walks against Levi Prater and Leonardo Taveras, but failed to score, earning each a hold a save respectively.
In the abbreviated start, Cerantola (0-1) took the loss for Quad Cities, while Love (3-6) earned his third win of the season, striking out five in the process.
The Bandits will look to even the series up on Friday at Dozer Park and will send Rylan Kaufman (1-2, 5.68) against Peoria's Logan Gragg (3-4, 4.71) for a 6:35pm first pitch.
