FC Montreal Signs Defender Brandon Onkony
June 10, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal announced on Friday that defender Brandon Onkony will join the Montreal Impact's USL team with an academy contract. He will be available for Saturday's game at 7pm, when the team faces FC Cincinnati at the Nippert Stadium.
The 18-year-old centre back joined the Montreal Impact Academy in August 2015. He played 13 games with the Impact U18 team in the USSDA season, helping the team qualify for the playoffs that will start on June 22.
"He is the sixth U18 Academy player to join FC Montreal for the 2016 season, which shows the great work that is done within the structure as a whole," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "He's a centre back that can also play on the sides. He's strong in the air and good in one-on-ones. We are happy to give him the opportunity to carry on developing with the USL team, an important and delicate step before eventually reaching the first team."
Onkony was born in Montreux, Switzerland. Before joining the Montreal Impact, he played for Montreux Sports.
