West Valley City, Utah - The Fresno Falcons won their third straight game, and moved to 33-15-8 on the season, with a 4-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday in front of 6,085 fans at The E Center.
After nearly 31 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Falcons got on the board 10:56 into the second period on Spencer Carbery's first goal in a Fresno sweater. Fresno won a face-off in its offensive zone, and Carbery chipped the puck past Mike Mole on a goal-mouth scramble for his fourth goal of the season.
Late in the period, the Falcons extended the lead to 2-0 with a 5-on-3 power-play goal from Oren Eizenman. Mole stopped the initial shot from Josh Prudden, but the rebound sat free in the crease, and Eizenman pushed the puck into an open net for his team-leading 26th goal of the year. The goal was Fresno's first power-play tally in its last 26 opportunities.
Utah cut its deficit in half with a power-play goal 2:04 into the second period, as Jeff Dwyer blasted a shot past Jake Moreland from the slot.
But, the Falcons answered with their second power-play goal of the night at 4:43, as Matt Stefanishion took a centering pass from Prudden and beat Mole to the short side for his 16th goal of the season.
Mike Ramsay stretched the lead to 4-1 just 28 seconds later, sending a shot from the back wall in front. The puck deflected off of Mole's skate and into the net for Ramsay's 14th of the year.
Morleand turned aside 23 Utah shots to improve his record to 16-6-4. The Falcons finished the night 2-for-10 on the power play, while Utah scored once on four man-advantage opportunities.
