Faulkner's Three Points Lead Inferno
March 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, S.C. -Mac Faulkner's three-point night paced the Inferno (27-23-4-6, 64 points) as they beat the visiting Dayton Bombers (26-22-5-5, 62 points) 4-2 on Saturday night.
Jeff Miles gave the Inferno a 1-0 lead with about five minutes left in the first when he escaped from the corner with a Jamie Lundberg pass and squirted the puck between Rejean Beauchemin's pads on the power play. The Inferno built a 2-0 lead when, just two minutes later and also on the power play, Jeremy Schenderling deflected Faulkner's slapshot from the point for his first goal as a member of the Inferno.
The Bombers cut the Inferno's lead in half just 93 seconds into the second period when forward Brad Bonello fired the puck past Jeff Jakaitis for his 14th goal of the season. Jeremy Hall reclaimed the two goal lead eight minutes into the period when he rifled Faulkner's one-time pass past Beauchemin's blocker side for his 13th goal of the season.
Mike Walsh made the game 3-2 when, after the referees determined the puck crossed the goal line, he was awarded his ninth goal of the season in an odd play at the 2:49 mark. Faulkner scored his 10th goal of the season just 40 seconds later when he slipped a heavy, low wrister past Beauchemin to give the Inferno a 4-2 lead and ultimate victory.
Beauchemin stopped 28 of 32, while Jakaitis turned aside 30 of 32.
The Inferno return to the Carolina Coliseum tomorrow, March 8th, to host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m.
