March 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Columbia, SC- Brad Bonello scored his fourteenth goal of the season as the Bombers fell 4-2 to the Columbia Inferno.
Dayton opened the game with a heavy offensive presence, outshooting the Inferno 14-10 in the frame. However, it was the Inferno special teams unit was on display as Jeff Miles netted a rebound past Bombers goalie Rejean Beauchemin at 14:47. Less than two minutes later, Columbia scored their second power play goal of the night from winger Jeremy Schenderling.
The Bombers answered back in the opening minutes of the second period as forward Brad Bonello intercepted an Inferno pass and shot the puck past Columbia netminder Jeff Jakaitis at the 1:33 mark. Columbia would find a way to regain a two goal lead when Jeremy Hall snuck a Mac Faulkner pass past Beauchemin. After two periods the Bombers were outshooting the Inferno 24-23.
Dayton opened the third period in a similar fashion to the second as Mike Walsh netted his ninth goal of the season, unassisted, less than three minutes into the frame, cutting the Columbia lead to one. But Columbia's Mac Faulkner found a way to sneak the puck past Beauchemin under a minute later to regain a two goal advantage for the Inferno and pick up his third point of the evening.
Beauchemin finished the night with 28 saves on 32 attempts, while the Bombers fired 32 shots on Jakaitis. The Bombers were 0 of 4 on the power play and 2 of 4 on the penalty kill.
The Bombers are 26-22-5-5 on the season and remain in fourth place in the North Division standings, two points ahead of the Johnstown Chiefs.
The Bombers return to action at the Nutter Center on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15, against the Trenton Devils, and Sunday, March 16, against the Cincinnati Cyclones for a three-day St. Patrick's Day weekend! The Bombers will wear specialty jerseys that will be up for bids on Saturday night (available for pick up after the game on Sunday) at a live post-game auction on the flight deck. Green beer will also be available throughout the arena! For more information on upcoming Bombers home games, please contact the Bombers office at 775-4747 or visit www.daytonbombers.com.
