Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons scored early and never let up on Friday night as they blanked the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by a score of 4-0 at the Mass Mutual Center.

The Falcons struck first thanks to a power play tally. After a scrum in front of the net, Derek Smith fired a shot from the point that Greg Carey tipped past Christopher Gibson to open the scoring. Alex Grant would also pick up an assist on the goal just 3:49 into the game. The Falcons would get insurance just over ten minutes later thanks to another goalmouth scramble. Laurent Dauphin put home the rebound for his fifth of the season, assisted by Carey and Craig Cunningham at 14:11.

The Sound Tigers had numerous chances to get on the board in the second period, including two opportunities on the man advantage, but they failed to solve Louis Domingue, who made numerous key saves among his 14 in the period. The Falcons would extend their lead as Philip Samuelsson tipped a Dauphin shot past Gibson late in the period. Carey would pick up the secondary assist on the marker scored at 16:54.

Dauphin nearly had his second of the night at the 18:43 mark of the third period as he was awarded a penalty shot on Gibson. The Sound Tigers' netminder made the save, sprawling across the crease to deny the attempt. The Falcons would seal the game in the final moments of the third period as Bridgeport pulled Gibson in favor of the extra attacker with over five minutes remaining. Samuelsson would score his second of the night as he just missed Carey on the pass but hit the empty net instead. The goal, scored at 14:36 and on the power play, would be the final score in the 4-0 win.

Domingue stopped 33 shots for his first shutout of the year and improved his record to 6-4-1. Gibson made 32 saves and fell to 8-4-1.

The Falcons finish their three game weekend with a pair of contests in Providence. The teams will play Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. Both games can be heard live on NewsRadio560 WHYN.
