Portland Pirates News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins (6-10-4-1) had been 0-5 in games that finished beyond regulation coming into Friday night's game at Dunkin Donuts Center with the Portland Pirates (8-10-1-0), but all that changed at 1:35 of overtime when Seth Griffith beat Mike McKenna to lift the P-Bruins to a 3-2 victory.

After a scoreless first period, Portland finally snapped the stalemate at 13:53 of second period when Sena Acolatse knocked a rebound past Malcolm Subban for his fourth goal of the season. Rob Schremp and Rocco Grimaldi picked up assists on the tally, which snapped a 98-minute shutout streak for Subban.

Providence evened the score with just 39.1 seconds left in the second as Brandon DeFazio beat McKenna on a rebound for his fourth goal of the season from Matt Irwin and Zack Phillips.

The Bruins snatched the lead at 14:42 of the third period as Max Talbot finished off a two-on-one with a shot from between the circles that squeezed past McKenna. Talbot's second goal of the year was assisted by Alexander Khokhlachev, who made his return to the Providence lineup after missing nine games with an injury, and Chris Breen.

Schremp tied the game with just 2:11 as he slapped his eighth goal of the season through the five-hole on Subban. Shane Harper and Mike Matheson assisted.

Griffith's winner was off a turnover right in front of McKenna and was his fifth goal of the season. It was unassisted.

Subban made 31 saves to improve to 3-5-2, while McKenna stopped 28 shots and is now 6-7-1 on the season.

Portland was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Providence went 1-for-3.

The victory for Providence was their second in a row. It's the first time the Bruins have won consecutive games this season. Portland has collected three of a possible four points from the first two games of their three-game road trip so far.
