Falcons Name Team Captains for 2010-11 Season

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that forward Ben Guite has been named team captain of the Falcons for the 2010-11 season. The Falcons also announced that defenseman Nate Guenin and center Michael Blunden have been named assistant captains.

Guite is in his 11th professional season and was signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets this past summer as a free agent. The Montreal, Quebec native has registered 19-26-45 and 97 penalty minutes in 175 career NHL games with Boston, Colorado and Nashville. He set career highs with 11-11-22, 47 penalty minutes and was +1 in 79 games with the Avalanche in 2007-08. In 499 career AHL games with Springfield, Bridgeport, Cincinnati, Providence, Albany and Milwaukee, he has registered 82-139-221, 447 penalty minutes and a +8 cumulative plus/minus rating. Prior to his professional career, Guite spent four seasons at the University of Maine, where he tallied 47-49-96 and 107 penalty minutes in 146 career games.

Guenin was also signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets this past summer as a free agent and has played for both Springfield and Columbus this year. Guenin, 27, has played in eight games for the Falcons this year, while also appearing in three contests with the Blue Jackets. Last season, he appeared in two games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and combined to tally 5-13-18, 98 penalty minutes and was +11 in 68 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Peoria Rivermen, including 2-11-13, 35 penalty minutes and +14 in 27 games after joining Peoria. He has collected 12-51-63, 440 penalty minutes in 283 career AHL games with Springfield, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Peoria and Philadelphia.

Blunden is in his fifth professional season and split last year between Syracuse and Columbus. Chicago's second pick, 43rd overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Blunden was acquired by the Blue Jackets from Chicago in exchange for Adam Pineault on Jan. 10, 2009. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Blunden has tallied 40-59-99, 253 penalty minutes and a +6 cumulative plus/minus rating in 203 career AHL games. Prior to his professional career, he notched 100-81-181 and 246 penalty minutes in 236 games with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League from 2002-2006.
