Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Cleveland, OH - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 5-1 in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon. The Monsters scored five unanswered goals including two by Ben Walter to give the Bulldogs only their second regulation loss of the season. The loss snaps the 'Dogs nine-game point streak and five-game winning streak.
Neither team could score in the opening stanza but David Desharnais potted the game's first goal at 5:56 of the second period. Aaron Palushaj released a shot on net that was stopped by Lake Erie starting goaltender Jason Bacashihua. Following a scrum in front of the Monsters net, Desharnais grabbed the loose puck and fired it past Bacashihua.
The Monsters tied the game 1-1 at 7:12 of the middle frame. Mark Olver slid a cross-ice pass to Ray Macias, who blasted a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer and into the top of the net. Lake Erie took a 2-1 lead at 10:45. Julian Talbot raced to the puck before dishing a pass over to Greg Mauldin. Mauldin used a deke move in front of the net before sliding the puck past Mayer and across the goal line.
Walter gave the Monsters a 3-1 lead 43 seconds into the third stanza while on a 5-on-3 power play. Brandon Rogers centered the puck to Walter, who rifled a shot past Mayer and into the net. Luke Walker increased Lake Erie's lead to 4-1 at 10:10. Patrick Bordeleau received the puck from Macias before feeding a cross-crease pass to Walker, who one-timed the puck past Mayer. Walter added his second goal of the game and period at 10:41. Mauldin's shot was redirected by Rogers but stopped by Mayer. The goaltender could not contain the rebound, allowing Walter to grab the puck and whack it past Mayer.
