LOOKING AHEAD:
Atlantic Division-leading Portland makes its second visit of the year to Springfield on Wednesday... The Pirates have racked up a 7-0-1-0 home mark this season but will be looking to improve their 3-3-0-0 record on the road... One of those three road defeats was a 6-2 setback at Springfield on Oct. 22 in the teams' most recent meeting... Portland's Luke Adam is tied for the AHL lead with 10 goals, and his 17 points in 13 games top all league rookies... Adam had four points (1-3-4) in a 4-2 win over Springfield on Oct. 16... Pirates defenseman Dennis Persson is riding a four-game scoring streak (2-3-5), and Paul Byron has a point in six of his last seven outings (2-5-7)... Portland goaltender David Leggio (6-1-0, 2.82, .913) had won six straight decisions to begin the season before suffering a 5-4 overtime loss to Providence on Saturday... The Falcons bring a four-game points streak (3-0-0-1) into this tilt and sit six points back of Portland in the division race... Michael Blunden shows a point in five of his last six games (3-4-7) for Springfield, and rookie Matt Calvert has notched three goals in his last two games... Falcons rookie defenseman John Moore went scoreless in his first eight games this season but has five points (1-4-5) in four outings since.
Intra-state rivals Rochester and Binghamton square off for the first of eight meetings this season on Wednesday at the Broome County Arena... The Senators have earned a standings point in seven of their last eight games (5-1-1-1) since a 1-3-0-0 start to the season... Binghamton is coming off a 5-0 blanking of Syracuse on Sunday in which rookie Bobby Butler notched his first pro hat trick and Robin Lehner made 33 saves to pick up his first pro shutout... Butler is currently on a five-game scoring run (6-3-9) - with a goal in four of those five contests - and ranks second among AHL rookies in both goals (9) and points (14) in 12 contests... B-Sens leading scorer Corey Locke is tied for second in the league with 18 points (4-14-18) and brings a six-game scoring streak (3-9-12) into tonight's action... Jim O'Brien (3-1-4) and rookie Colin Greening (1-4-5) each show three-game scoring runs for Binghamton... The Americans boast an impressive 6-1-1-0 mark on the road thus far and have won four straight away from Blue Cross Arena... Michal Repik has used a seven-game scoring streak (2-9-11) to take over the AHL lead with 19 points (3-16-19) in 14 games overall... Bill Thomas (6-7-13) and Evgeny Dadonov (5-5-10) have also reached double-digit points for Rochester... Rochester finished 6-4-0-0 against the Senators during the 2009-10 season.
Toronto continues its 10-game road trek in Glens Falls on Thursday with a visit to the Adirondack Phantoms... The Marlies are 3-0-0-2 at the midway point of their trip following Tuesday's 4-0 win in Hartford, in which Jussi Rynnas earned his first AHL victory with a 33-save shutout... Mike Zigomanis had a goal and an assist on Tuesday, giving him 2-5-7 in his last three games for Toronto... Joey Crabb has scored for the Marlies in three consecutive games... Thursday's contest will be the Phantoms' first under new interim head coach John Paddock, an AHL Hall of Famer who ranks third all-time with 585 career coaching victories... Denis Hamel, who played for Paddock in Binghamton and Ottawa from 2003-07, has three goals in two games since signing with Adirondack last week... Marlies coach Dallas Eakins is also a former Paddock pupil, skating with the Winnipeg Jets in 1992-93... Adirondack is looking to snap a nine-game winless streak (0-8-1-0), which is tied for the longest in the franchise's 15-year history... The Phantoms currently rank 29th in the AHL in goals per game (2.15) and 30th in goals allowed per contest (4.31)... These two teams split a pair of meetings last season, with each side winning on its home ice.
