Springfield Falcons News Release
Norfolk, VA â The Springfield Falcons were upended by the Norfolk Admirals, 4-2, at the Norfolk Scope on Friday evening. Defenseman Nikos Tselios and right wing Evgeni Artukhin scored goals for the Falcons. Rookie left wing Rene Bourque recorded a hat trick for the Admirals.
The Admirals potted the only goal of the first period when Bourque put back the rebound of a shot from the left point by defenseman Anton Babchuk with 5:47 remaining in the frame.
After Norfolk made the score 2-0 on a goal by Matt Ellison at the end of a two-man advantage 8:10 into the second period, Tselios lifted a shot from the slot under the crossbar to put the Falcons on the board at 12:44. PlanetUSA All-Star captain Craig Darby collected the lone assist on the goal.
Artukhin evened the game for Springfield with 2:10 left in the period. The 6-4, 254-pound forward collected a loose puck in front of the Admirals' net before beating goaltender Michael Leighton for his sixth goal of the season.
However, Norfolk regained the lead 46 seconds later when Bourque scored his second marker of the game. On the goal, a centering attempt by Ellison banked off the side of Springfield net and to the stick of Bourque in the slot.
Bourque capped his hat trick with an insurance goal for Norfolk at the 8:45 mark of the third period with a shot that trickled through the pads of Falcons netminder Jamie Storr. The goal was Bourque's 19th of the season - the most among AHL rookies.
Bourque's linemate Ellison finished the game with four points on a goal and three assists. Right wing Matt Keith collected three helpers for Norfolk.
Storr made 43 saves in the Falcons' net.
Springfield was scoreless on two power plays in the game while the Admirals converted one of three chances with the man advantages.
