Falcons Lose in a Shootout

Fresno Falcons News Release

VICTORIA, British Columbia - The Fresno Falcons fell in a shootout to the Victoria Salmon Kings, 2-1, at Bear Mountain Arena.

Victoria opened the scoring on the power play after the Falcons turned the puck over at their own blueline. Ryan Wade intercepted the errant clearing attempt and fed Ryan Watson, who had his bid deflected before sliding slowly between the pads of Fresno goaltender Brett Jaeger at 13:22 of the opening period. Corey Hessler answered for Fresno less than two minutes later, though, when he banged in a rebound off an initial shot from Charles Simard for his first goal as a Falcon.

The game remained tied at one through the next 40 minutes of action and on into overtime. Early in the extra session, Watson took a match penalty for high-sticking Fresno captain Dan Tessier, giving the Falcons a three-minute power play to essentially end OT. Skating four-on-three, though, Fresno could not solve Victoria netminder Dan Blackburn a second time, and the teams headed to a shootout.

In the shootout, only Dan Tessier scored for Fresno as both Ryan Finnerty and Ryan Wade beat Jaeger to deliver the 2-1 shootout win to Victoria.

Fresno earns one point in the standings for the shootout loss, remaining in sole possession of fourth place in the West Division with a record of 26-17-6 on the season.

The Falcons conclude a four-game road trip tomorrow with their final clash of the season against the Salmon Kings. Catch the live play-by-play action from Victoria on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the pre-game show.
