Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – For the second straight game the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Fresno Falcons went to the shootout, and for the second straight game the Salmon Kings outlasted the visitors to take the two points up for grabs.

Tied 1-1 heading to the overtime, the Salmon Kings were forced to kill a three minute four on three penalty which they accomplished in fine fashion to send the teams to the tie-breaker.

Jason Weaver had the first crack at Salmon Kings goalie Dan Blackburn but missed the net entirely giving Victoria's Ryan Finnerty the opportunity to put the Salmon Kings ahead. Finnerty beat Brett Jaeger shot top shelf, tightening the screws.

Jim Lorentz missed for the Falcons on their second shot and the Salmon Kings forward Chris Corrinet had no reply setting the stage for Fresno captain Dan Tessier who was called back into the game after being sent to the dressing room in the overtime period, with a ten minute misconduct. Tessier tied the shootout with a beautiful shot beating Blackburn high over his glove/blocker side.

Ryan Wade stepped into the spotlight and beat Jaeger to the blocker hand to put the Salmon Kings on top, 2-1. John Wroblewski missed for the Falcons giving newcomer Scott Turner the chance to ice it for the Salmon Kings in his first game with Victoria. Turner was unable to solve the Jaeger puzzle as he rung his shot off the iron, putting the pressure squarely on the shoulders of Fresno defenseman Charles Simard.

Simard and the Falcons were not up for the task on Tuesday and Blackburn stood tall making 33 saves including Simard's final chance to tie the game to send it to the final shooters.

The Ryan Trio of Watson, Wade and Finnerty connected at 13:22 of the first period to put the Salmon Kings ahead on the powerplay, 1-0. Just over two minutes later Falcons defenseman Corey Hessler answered from Charles Simard and Jim Lorentz and that is the way the score stayed until the end of sixty minutes.

The Salmon Kings and the Falcons square off for the final time in 2004-05 season on Wednesday night at the Bear Mountain Arena, game time is 7:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
