San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls, who are 11 games over .500 at home, look for their first win against the North Division Wheeling Nailers when the two square off tonight at the Sports Arena.
SERIES HISTORY: This is the third all-time meeting between the Gulls and Nailers and first-ever at the Sports Arena. San Diego and Wheeling have clashed twice this season (both games in Wheeling), with the Nailers holding a 2-0-0 series edge. Tonight is the last regular season match-up between the West Division Gulls and North Division Nailers.
2004-05 HEAD-TO-HEAD SERIES:
02/04/05 San Diego 3 @ Wheeling 4 (overtime)
02/06/05 San Diego 0 @ Wheeling 3
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (FEB. 6 @ WHL): It was a scoreless duel heading into the third period, but the Nailers scored three times in the final frame and cruised to a 3-0 shutout. Wheeling netminder Joe Exter only had to face 15 shots in the contest, but stopped them all. Ferhi, arguably the better goaltender in the game, stopped 32 shots, but suffered the hard-luck loss. Cam Paddock, Rick Gorman and former Gull Cliff Loya tallied for the Nailers.
