TRENTON, NJ (February 16, 2005) â Seven players scored for the Toledo Storm en route to a 7-5 victory over the Trenton Titans in front of 3,532 fans at Sovereign Bank Arena.
Toledo set an early tone, scoring just 52 seconds into the contest. Storm winger Tyler Knight got credit for the goal after tipping in a Jason Jozsa shot. Sam Paolini, who led Toledo with four points on the evening, registered his first assist of the game.
The Storm then extended its lead nearly ten minutes later when former Titan Scooter Smith finished a break-away opportunity at the 11:32 mark.
Rick Kowalsky finally put the Titans on the board with his 15th goal of the year at 16:23. But the Storm struck back just 58 seconds later when Paul Ballantyne's second goal of the year gave Toledo a 3-1 lead.
In the second period, the floodgates opened on the Titans. The Storm scored two goals in just over four minutes to extend the lead to 5-1. Paolini scored his 11th goal of the season 1:45 into the period, and Nick Parillo netted his 10th of the year at the 3:30 mark.
Matt Libby breathed a bit of life into the Titans when his third goal of the season at 4:04 brought the team within three.
But the Storm pulled away as defensemen Thomas Micka and Dan Eberly both beat Titans goalie Chris Houle for second period goals. Houle, who replaced Titans starter Andrew Allen at the first intermission, made 12 saves on the night in the losing effort.
Trenton scored three goals in the final period to make it a close game. Forward Paul Brown, who had two points on the night, scored just 1:13 into the third, and Leon Hayward scored his eighth of the year at 6:27 to bring the Titans within three.
The Titans wouldn't find the net again until 17:39 when Bryce Cockburn scored Trenton's fifth and final goal of the night.
The Titans return to action Friday night, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. when they face the Toledo Storm for the second time in three days. Tune into to 91.3 FM WTSR to hear all of the Titans hockey action. Fans can also go to www.trentontitans.com to listen or watch live.
