Falcons' Last Second Flurry Falls Short

November 7, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - A late third period flurry with the goaltender pulled in search of the game-tying goal ultimately came up empty as the Fresno Falcons lost to the Alaska Aces, 2-1, in front of 4,147 at Save Mart Center.

For the second straight evening in this two-game series the Aces struck first. Scott Gomez fed Mike Scott at the side of the goal at 10:43 of the opening period to give Alaska a 1-0 lead. Fresno responded when Derek Krestanovich's centering pass intended for David Brisson banked instead off an Aces defenseman and into the goal. The Falcons rookie was credited with his second tally of the season, tying the game at 12:27 of the first.

The eventual game-winner came mid-way through the second off a great individual effort by Chris Minard. Shielding a Fresno d-man from the puck with his back to the goal, Minard then spun and fired a wrist shot top shelf past Falcons goaltender Simon Lajeunesse at 7:28 of the period.

Once Fresno was able to pull Lajeunesse in the waning moments of the final period, the club generated good chances toward the Alaska net, even hitting the post at least once, but goaltender Peter Aubry held the Falcons at bay to secure the 2-1 victory.

Coupled with last night's 4-1 loss, the Falcons were swept in this two-game weekend series by the Aces to fall to 1-6-1 on the year.

Fresno will next host the North Division's Toledo Storm on Tuesday at Save Mart Center at 7 p.m. in the season's first Carl's Jr. Two-for-Tuesday. Fans can pick-up two-for-one coupons for Tuesday's game at participating Carl's Jr. restaurants.

Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
