FRESNO, Calif. â Peter Aubry stopped 30 shots as Alaska preserved its 2-1 lead for more than 32 minutes to win by that same score over the Fresno Falcons before 4,147 Saturday at the Save-Mart Center.
For the seventh time in its nine games to date, Alaska scored first, as Scott Gomez found an unchecked Mike Scott wide open in the slot for a one-timer and a 1-0 lead at 10:43 of the first period. Less than two minutes later, though, Derek Krestanovich's seemingly harmless centering pass on a Fresno rush caromed off an Alaska defenseman and hopped over goalie Peter Aubry's right shoulder for the equalizer.
The Aces surged back in front on a brilliant individual play by Chris Minard, who beat Falcon defenseman Clint Cabana with a spin move, then launched a wrister top shelf at 7:28 for his sixth goal of the year, second-most in the ECHL. Alaska (4-4-1) would hold on, keyed by Aubry's stop of Dan Tessier from between the circles with a minute left and a drive from the point moments later that clanged off the crossbar.
After having played seven games in nine nights, Alaska takes a couple of days off before continuing its 14-day roadie in Las Vegas Tuesday night at 6:05 p.m. ADT, a game that will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD and available via video webcast at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes before the puck drops at Orleans Arena.
