Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride overcame two four-goal deficits to defeat the Greenville Grrrowl 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at the BI-LO Center. The Grrrowl got off to a quick start, scoring four goals in the opening period. Martin St. Pierre scored the first two Greenville goals at 1:30 and 7:36.
Power-play goals by Ed Caron at 13:16 and Richard Pitirri at 18:44 made it 4-0 Grrrowl after 20 minutes. The Pride finally got on the scoreboard 2:54 into the second period. Tyler Kindle carried the puck across the Grrrowl line and came in on Greenville goaltender Mike Brodeur. Kindle skated all the way to the net and roofed a shot over Brodeur for his first of the season.
Greenville got the goal back at the 7:10 mark of the middle period. St. Pierre won a faceoff back to Carl Mallette. His shot was tipped in front by J.F. Plourde for the Grrrowl's third power-play goal of the game.
A power play goal for the Pride brought them back within three at the 10:13 mark. Tony Johnson's shot from the point was tipped in front by Mark Mullen, who picked up his fourth goal of the season.
Another power-play tally just over two minutes later put the Pride back within two. Darryl Green pinched in from the blue line and was able to bang a rebound past Brodeur for his first goal of the season.
Pee Dee climbed within one on a shorthanded tally at 16:35. Mullen broke up a pass at the Pride blue line and fed Brian Collins streaking up the ice all alone. Collins deked Brodeur and slid a shot past the Grrrowl goaltender for his fifth goal of the season.
The Pride tied the game with just 37 seconds left in the second period on another shorthanded goal. Kyle Kidney had the puck on the left wing side of the Grrrowl end and centered a pass in front and Collins on the near post tipped the shot past Brodeur for his second of the night.
The Pride took their first lead of the night just 1:38 into the final period.
Allan Sirois skated free into the Grrrowl end and from the left wing circle blistered a wrist shot past Brodeur for his third goal of the year.
Greenville tied the game at 6 at the 12:05 mark of the final period. Krys Barch carried the puck up the left wing side and centered a perfect pass to Caron who slid it past Sebastien Laplante for his second goal of the game. Pee Dee retook the lead at the 15:03 mark. Kindle's shot was stopped, but Collins was on the doorstep to put the rebound home to complete the hat trick and make it 7-6.
Pee Dee returns to action on Thursday with the fist of back-to-back to games at the North Charleston Coliseum against the South Carolina Stingrays. Face off is set for 7:00, with all of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5, starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 6:40.
