Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors lost to the Fresno Falcons Wednesday night, 6-2, in front of 3,641 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. Falcons F John Morlang paced Fresno's offense with a hat trick.
Fresno (12-6-3, 27 points) came out of the gates hot, netting five goals in the opening frame. Morlang scored the first two, and RW Mike Ramsay, RW Josh Ciocco and RW Brady Leisenring followed with one apiece. Condors G Jeff Pietrasiak made 12 saves in the period, but was replaced by G Yutaka Fukufuji to start the second.
The Condors (5-14-5, 15 points) went on the power play early in the second, and capitalized on the man-advantage with their first goal. D Kevin Truelson skated the puck into the Falcons zone and wristed a shot past Fresno G Jake Moreland to make the score 5-1.
The Falcons stretched the lead back to five goals at 7:37 of the third with Morlang's third goal of the game, putting Fresno up, 6-1. Bakersfield F Todd Griffith cut the Fresno lead back down to four with a power-play tally at 9:16 of the third. Truelson found Griffith open at the right-wing circle where he hammered home Bakersfield's second goal of the contest. Tempers flared for the remainder of the third period, leading to 141 penalty minutes in the final frame and 172 total penalty minutes in the game. However, Bakersfield couldn't find a way to come back, dropping their fourth straight game.
Notes: RW Jesse Bennefield, RW Maxime Lincourt, D Jay Langager and G Jeff Pietrasiak all made their first starts at home for the Condors this year. F Todd Griffith extended his point streak to seven games with a goal tonight. C Tim Konsorada picked up an assist on both goals, and leads the team with 24 points (12g, 12a). The Condors racked up 102 penalty minutes tonight, 14 minutes shy of the Condors record of 116, set on Dec. 4, 1999 against the Anchorage Aces.
The Condors are back in The Nest on Saturday, Dec. 15 when the Victoria Salmon Kings come to Condorstown. Dora the Explorer will be in attendance to mingle and take pictures with fans and there will be a special jersey retirement ceremony for Condor Legend Jamie Cooke, ensuring that no one will wear #28 for the Condors again. Cooke is the Condors all- time leader in goals (143) and is second in assists (170) and points (313). Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
