Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Stockton scored on a two-man advantage in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, then buried another power play goal in the first minute of OT to claim its first ever win at Sullivan Arena, 4-3, in front of 3,688.

Neither club played particularly through the first two periods, though the Thunder generally had a slight edge in scoring chances and grabbed a 1-0 lead on Jake MicFlikier's second goal of the series at 6:42 of the opening frame. Vladimir Novak tied the contest at 10:15 when, after a terrific save made by Stockton goalie Tim Boron against Aces defenseman Bryan Miller, F.P. Guenette found his linemate wide open between the circles on the rebound.

Alaska took its first lead, when Olivier Filion pounced on a loose puck in front of Boron at 8:16 of the second period, a situation created by Gino Guyer's hard-driving move to the net from the right wing. But 53 seconds later, a double deflection on a drive from Thunder defenseman Mark Adamek sailed past Aces starter Derek Gustafson, and the game remained tied 2-2 heading to the final 20 minutes.

Gustafson remained sharp in the third period, finishing with 36 saves in regulation, and looked to be on his way to a fourth straight victory when Filion scored his second goal of the night, and his sixth of the year, on an Alaska power play with 12:02 left in regulation. But with 2:12 remaining, Cam Keith was whistled for slashing and Kimbi Daniels for unsportsmanlike conduct after arguing the call. 26 seconds later, Peter Metcalf took a slashing penalty, leaving the Aces without three of their best penalty killers for the final minute of regulation. Stephane Goulet scored from the hashmarks to tie the game 3-3 with 42.4 seconds left, and MicFlikier capped a four-point night with an assist on the game-winner 49 seconds into overtime, a blast from the high slot by Stockton captain Brad Farynuk.

Alaska settles for a 4-0-1 homestand and a share of the West Division lead with Victoria at 14-8-2 overall. The Aces and Salmon Kings (15-6), who will play at Fresno twice and Bakersfield once this weekend, collide next week in a three-game series in Victoria, beginning Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. ADT. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
