Stockton Thunder News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Captain Brad Farynuk's overtime game-winning goal just 49 seconds into overtime capped a dramatic comeback by the Stockton Thunder (10-12-2, 22 points) and gave the Thunder its first all-time win at Sullivan Arena in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Alaska Aces on Wednesday.
The Thunder drew first blood just 6:42 into the game on leading scorer Jacob Micflikier's eighth goal of the season. After Stephane Goulet rang a wrist shot off the left goal post, defenseman Mark Adamek set-up the eventual scoring chance with a wrist shot from the right point that caromed off Alaska goaltender Derek Gustafson on the doorstep to rookie Ryan O'Marra, who re-directed a pass to Micflikier planted at the left goal crease and tapped in the goal.
Alaska answered with Vladimir Novak's second goal of the season for a 1-1 tie with 9:45 left in the first period, finishing off a scramble for a loose puck when F.P. Guenette fed Novak from the right corner, proceeded by a desperate wrist shot by Novak that found the back of the net with Thunder goaltender Tim Boron still trying to regain his ground.
Olivier Filion put Alaska ahead 2-1 at the 8:16 mark of the second period for his fifth goal of the season, jamming in a rebound after Boron stopped a point-blank chance by Alaska's Gino Guyer. Just 53 seconds later, the Thunder quieted the Sullivan Arena crowd on Adamek's second goal of the season. Adamek picked off an attempted clearing pass by the Aces, set up a wrist shot from the right point which re-directed off traffic and through the legs of Gustafson.
Olivier Filion put Alaska ahead 3-2 with a power-play goal just 8:58 into the third period. The Thunder responded with Goulet's second goal of the year with 42.3 seconds left on a wrist shot that beat Gustafson from the mid-slot.
Farynuk completed the comeback with a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Gustafson under the crossbar for his second goal of the year.
NOTES: The Thunder improved its all-time record against Alaska to 4-10-3 ... Micflikier tallied a career-high four points (1g-3a).
The Thunder returns on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against the Bakersfield Condors at Stockton Arena. The game can be heard live on radio at 1420-AM KSTN and on the internet (video and audio available) at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
