Fresno Falcons News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - The Fresno Falcons scored late in regulation to force overtime, but fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers 5-4 in a shootout on Tuesday at Orleans Arena. With the one point, Fresno moves to within one point of Idaho for fourth place in the National Conference standings.
Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the first period. Adam Cracknell gathered in a loose puck at the Fresno blue line and sent a quick shot to the front of the net that was deflected by Arpad Mihaly past Scott Stirling for his 22nd goal of the season.
The Falcons came back to knot the score at 6:33. Luke Curtin sent a pass to Rob McFeeters in the left-wing circle, and he one-timed a shot past Mike McKenna. McFeeters, who had missed the previous 14 games following surgery, recorded his 12th goal of the season.
McFeeters struck again at 11:35 to give Fresno the lead. McFeeters again took a centering feed in the slot and ripped a shot past McKenna giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Wranglers tied the score at the 11:30 mark of the second period. With a delayed penalty coming against the Falcons, Las Vegas pulled McKenna for an extra attacker, and was able to convert as Scott Schoneck's shot from the left-wing circle eluded Stirling's reach.
The Falcons went back on top late in the period thanks to a power-play goal from Cory Murphy at 18:48. Murphy took a pass from Curtin, skated into the high slot, and beat McKenna with a wrist shot for his 10th goal of the season.
Las Vegas tied the score at three at 11:30 of the third period with a power-play goal as Jason Krischuk's long shot from the left-wing side found the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
The Wranglers went back on top just 1:38 later, scoring another power-play goal. Marco Peluso beat Stirling with a quick wrist shot from the right-wing circle giving Las Vegas a 4-3 lead.
Fresno came back and tied the score at four with 2:03 remaining in regulation. Matt O'Dette beat McKenna with a long shot from the right point for his fourth goal of the season, sending the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout. Las Vegas scored on its first shot in the shootout, and McKenna stopped all five Fresno shots to give the Wranglers the win.
The Falcons return home on Friday, hosting the Alaska Aces at 7:30 p.m. in the first game of a four-game home stand, presented by K-JEWEL and ABC 30. The first 5,000 fans in attendance receive a free Cory Murphy Player Card courtesy of Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino.
