Fresno Falcons News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Despite getting out-shot, 47-23, the Fresno Falcons exploded for three goals in the first five minutes of the third period on Friday to defeat the Bakersfield Condors, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 5,520 at Centennial Garden.

Bakersfield opened the scoring 3:50 into the game just after a Falcons penalty expired when a shot by Jonathan Sorg deflected off a body and by Falcons goaltender Terry Friesen. The rest of the period was characterized by chippy play on both sides as the teams combined for 54 penalty minutes.

At one point in the second Fresno was getting out-shot 17-2 for the period and 20-9 for the entire frame, but the Condors could not beat Friesen again and the Falcons were still within a goal, 1-0, as the teams headed to the third.

Just :17 into the final period Glen Gulutzan wristed home his third of the year with Fresno on a power play, and Jason Weaver followed with his eighth of the year at :58 off a rebound. Fresno would add to their sudden lead when Alex Todd combined with Cory Murphy off a two-on-zero for his first goal of the season at 4:45. Friesen continued to shine and ended the evening with a season-high 46 saves to lead his club to the 3-1 win.

The victory was the Falcons' first of the year against Bakersfield in regulation after 10 tries and their third straight overall. It upped their record to 15-12-4 and 34 points, three behind the Condors and third place in the league with two games in hand.

The Falcons play the final game of a six-game road trip tomorrow night at Long Beach before returning home on Sunday to host the Anchorage Aces at 5 p.m. Sunday's game features between-periods entertainment provided by the Zooperstars and posters commemorating Freddie the Falcon's birthday celebration to the first 1,000 fans. Tickets are still available at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www. ticketmaster.com.
