Fresno Falcons News Release

BOISE, Idaho - D'Arcy McConvey registered a hat trick and Marty Flichel recorded three assists as the Idaho Steelheads defeated the Fresno Falcons 6-2 in the second of a three-game set this week at Qwest Arena. After the Steelheads won the opener on Wednesday, 3-0, Fresno will try to avoid suffering a sweep when the teams wrap-up the series tomorrow.

Idaho's Paul Caponigri opened the scoring at 13:01 of the first period when he fired a slapshot from the high slot past Falcons goaltender Jamie Holden just after a Steelheads power play expired.

Leading 1-0 into the second, Caponigri struck again after he was sprung on a partial break-away and was able to shovel a forehand past Holden at 5:19. Fraser Clair finally scored Fresno's first goal of the series at 9:23 of the middle period when he blazed up the left wing and finished past Steelheads goaltender Matt Yeats for his 22nd of the year. The goal seemed to give the Falcons a little life, but it was quickly squelched when McConvey scored his first two goals of the evening 42 seconds apart at 12:08 and 12:50, giving Idaho a 4-1 advantage into the third.

David Bararuk converted on the power play 7:56 into the final frame to up the advantage to 5-1, before Fresno responded with a power play goal from Dustin VanBallegooie at 13:06. McConvey answered again, though, this time just 32 seconds after VanBallegooie's marker, to give Idaho their final 6-2 margin.

The Falcons tied a season low by mustering 18 shots on goal as they lost back-to-back games in regulation for just the third time this season. Fresno's record stands at 37-13-13 with 87 points atop the Pacific Division.

The teams play the finale of their three-game set at Qwest Arena tomorrow. The game can be heard live on 1550 Sporting News Radio beginning with the FutureTek Pre-game Show at 5:45 p.m. Pacific.
