WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Garret Cameron factored in all four Utah goals as the Grizzlies extended Alaska's winless streak to four with a 4-1 victory Friday night in front of 8,402 at the âE' Center.
After a scoreless first period in which Alaska did not register a shot on goal in any of its three power play opportunities, Utah broke through with a power play goal scored by Ryan Kinasewich at 1:36 of the second. The Aces tied the game as Kimbi Daniels redirected a drive from Mike Scott past Grizzlies starter Alfie Michaud at 14:42 for his 12th goal of the year. Utah regained the lead on a subsequent five-on-three situation, as Cameron tipped a blast from the point over Matt Underhill with 2:39 left in the period.
With Alaska pressing for the equalizer, the Grizzlies took off on a three-on-one midway through the third period, and Louis Dumont took a pass from Kinasewich and snapped the puck past Underhill with 8:14 remaining to extend Utah's margin to 3-1. Cameron scored an empty-netter with 1:09 left to account for the final margin. The Grizzlies out-shot the Aces, who are now 2-4-1 in the final game of a road trip, 39-33.
Prior to the game, Alaska added Troy Riddle to its active roster, as the two-time national champion at the University of Minnesota was assigned to the club by its AHL affiliate in Peoria, where he scored 11 goals and 11 assists in 55 games with a +6 rating. The 24-year-old Riddle, a third-year pro out of Minneapolis who was a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2000, won two back-to-back national titles for his hometown Golden Gophers in 2002 and 2003 and finished his outstanding collegiate career with 82 goals and 95 assists in 177 games.
Alaska (49-11-6) returns to Sullivan Arena next weekend for its final home games of the regular season, Friday and Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. against Victoria. The Aces own a 5-1-2 record against the Salmon Kings and, with two victories, would break the all-time ECHL record for most home wins in a single season with 31. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com, where all home games and selected road contests also are available on a pay-per-view basis, courtesy of B2 Networks.
