Trenton clinches postseason berth

TRENTON, NJ (March 24, 2006) - Chris Pittman notched two goals on the evening, but it was his nineteenth of the season at 4:34 of the overtime period that sealed a 3-2 win for the Trenton Titans over the Wheeling Nailers at the Sovereign Bank Arena.

With the victory, the Titans clinched the final spot in the North Division for the Kelly Cup playoffs.

A crowd of 4,031 saw Pittman give his team a 2-1 lead at 4:42 of the second when he took a one-touch pass from Jason Norrie and fired a wrister through the five-hole of Wheeling netminder Andy Franck.

The slight edge for the Titans would remain until 4:50 of the third frame when Bo Cheesman capped of a 2-on-1 with Cam Paddock.

Despite outshooting the Nailers 42-34 through the third period and having a man-advantage for the final 1:30 of regulation, the Titans could not get the go-ahead goal.

Pittman ended the match when he took a breakaway pass from Matt Maglione and slipped a backhand across the goal line.

Sean Collins and Jim Henkel traded power play goals for either team for a 1-1 score after the first period.

Rejean Beauchemin picked up his second consecutive win with 34 saves on the evening.

The Titans finished 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
