Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons were downed by the Worcester Sharks, 4-2, this afternoon at the MassMutual Center.

The loss brings the Falcons to 6-7-1-0 on the season and builds a one-game deficit in the six game season series against the Sharks. The Sharks extend their three-game winning streak and advance to a 7-3-1-0.

Springfield goaltender Oscar Dansk turned away 20 of 23 in defeat, while his Worcester counterpart, J.P Anderson, stopped 30 of 32. The Falcons were able to convert on one of six power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit shut down all three Sharks man-advantages.

After a scoreless first period, the Falcons opened scoring and carried a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. T.J Tynan took a shot from a sharp angle below the right circle. The shot bounced off Anderson's pad and into the crease, where Sean Collins picked it up and buried his fourth of the season halfway through the frame. Austin Madaisky earned credit for the secondary assist.

The Sharks were able to rally back and outscore the Falcons, 4-1, in the third period to take the victory. Just 51 seconds into the period, Matt Tennyson slid the puck from the right side through traffic and into the net. Daniil Tarasov and Freddie Hamilton each picked up a point for assisting. A minute later, Evan Trupp netted a wrist shot from the left wing circle with the help of Travis Oleksuk and Konrad Abeltshauser to give the Sharks the lead.

Worcester continued their rally at the 6:59 mark. Dansk stopped Chris Tierney's shot from the point, but left the rebound out for Bryan Lerg to backhand in from the post.

Falcons captain Ryan Craig tried to initiate a comeback with a power-play goal at the 11:12 mark, but could not catch the Sharks. Tynan fed Madaisky, who fired a shot from the blue line. Craig redirected the shot from the crease to cut the lead to one.

Jeremy Langlois added an empty net goal with assists from Chris Tierney and Micheal Haley to secure a 4-2 victory over the Falcons.
