Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Despite getting out-shot in every period, Fresno Falcons goalie Jamie Hodson saved 37 out of 39 shots as he helped lead his team to a 4-2 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers in front of a crowd of 3,716 at Save Mart Center.
Defenseman Curtis Sheptak scored the first period's lone goal at 9:28 off a blazing slap shot from the blue line that sped past the glove of Las Vegas' goalie, Marc Magliarditi. The score was the Falcons' only power play conversion out of three chances during the period.
The game stayed close through the second, as the Wranglers and Falcons traded goals. Las Vegas converted a power play to tie the score at one apiece after Jason Spence's shot snuck past Hodson at 6:14.
Defenseman Simon Mangos then put the Falcons back on top 2-1 at 10:26 after he weaved his way through defenders and his shot found the back of the net.
It took only 28 seconds of the third period for Fresno to score again and increase their lead to 3-1. Sam Ftorek intercepted a Wranglers pass, pushed the puck past the blue line and then made a perfect pass to a streaking David Brisson, who was able to put a wrist shot through the Magliarditi's legs.
Las Vegas converted on yet another power play at 8:40 of the third as Dana Lattery netted a goal to bring the Wranglers back within striking distance at 3-2. Looking to tie the game, Las Vegas pulled Magliarditi in favor of an extra attacker with one minute left in regulation. Fresno withstood the pressure and was actually able to score a goal with two seconds left in the game as Ftorek put the puck into the empty net for a 4-2 final.
Fresno moved to 21-13-4 with the victory and remains unbeaten in 2005 with a 9-0-1 record since New Year's Day.
The Falcons travel to Bakersfield to battle the Condors tomorrow before returning to Save Mart Center this Friday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. to face Las Vegas followed by a 1 p.m. game the next day on Jan. 29 versus the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497), or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
