Extra-Inning Loss Washes Away Wild Card Lead

Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
For the first time since 2002, the Winnipeg Goldeyes have been shut out in back-to-back games.
The Goldeyes fell 1-0 to the St. Paul Saints in 12 innings Friday night before 6,058 fans at Midway Stadium in Minnesota.
A sac fly from Ronnie Bourquin in the bottom of the 12th inning scored Willie Cabrera to give St. Paul the win.
Winnipeg and St. Paul are now tied for the American Association's lone wild card spot with identical records of 50-40.
Despite not scoring a run, the Goldeyes had plenty of chances, but none greater than in the 10th inning when Winnipeg loaded the bases with just one out. However, Amos Ramon grounded into a double play and left the potential winning run on third base.
Winnipeg pitching tiptoed out of trouble all night, as the Saints left 15 men on base. Todd Privett had a quality start, going six and a third scoreless innings. He was relieved by Brian Beuning, who tossed four scoreless innings. Jack Van Leur walked the only batter he faced, while Chris Bodishbaugh suffered the loss after an inning and a third of work.
St. Paul used just three pitchers. Starter Kyle Ruwe went nine scoreless innings, while former Goldeyes Nick Carr and Billy Spottiswood finish up in relief. Spottiswood picked up the win.
The last time Winnipeg was shutout in consecutive games was August 8 and 9, 2002 when they suffered the same fate against the Joliet JackHammers. Going back to Wednesday in Gary, the Goldeyes have been held without a run in 25 consecutive innings.
The second game of this four-game series goes Saturday night. Ace Walker will start for Winnipeg against St. Paul's Robert Coe.
Coverage on TSN 1290 begins at 5:30 p.m. with Around the Association. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
