Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City-----The Kansas City T-Bones defeated the Explorers 11-2 Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park as they won two of the three games from the X's. It was nearly a repeat of Wednesday when Kansas City 9-3. Thursday, the T-Bones scored seven runs in the first three innings and led 7-1. After the Explorers had three consecutive base hits and took a 1-0 lead in the first, the only other run scored by the home team came on a solo home run by Ray Serrano in the third inning, his ninth of the season to cut the lead to 7-2, but that would be the closest the Explorers would get. Kansas City added one run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and their final tally in the seventh inning to hand the Explorers their second straight defeat in the series after the Explorers had won the first game on Tuesday. Starting pitcher Colin Allen gave up seven runs, all earned, and nine hits in three innings to send his record to 0-5 for the season. On a positive note, Wally Backman, Jr. had a bunt single in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 20 games, Serrano extended his hitting streak to 18 game and Mike Murphy had two hits to send his hitting streak to ten games. The Explorers will now begin a three-game series at Sioux Falls Friday night at 7:05. The contest will be broadcast only on the internet at xsbaseball.com.
