Sioux City Explorers News Release
Ft. Worth, TX.....The Fort Worth Cats defeated the Sioux City Explorers 5-1 Wednesday as the X's dropped their third straight game.
As with the previous two games, the Cats scored first, Wednesday scoring three runs in the third inning. Three consecutive doubles and a sacrifice fly accounted for the three runs for Fort Worth in the third. They came off losing hurler Curt Pasma (1-1).
Former first round pick Aaron Crow limited the Explorers to three hits through six innings of pitching. Crow, a University of Missouri pitcher, was the ninth player taken in the draft last June by Washington, but failed to sign. He is expected to be a first round draft again this June.
The Explorers finally scored in the ninth inning off relief pitcher Kelly Casares, snapping 19 innings without scoring a run. Bo Whitaker led off the ninth with a walk and Nick McCoola followed with a one-out walk. Anthony Webster singled to center to drive home Whitaker with the lone Explorer run. The hit by Webster extended his hitting streak to seven games. The X's had more opportunities in the ninth, but left the bases loaded in the defeat.
The loss was the third straight for the Explorers who finished the opening road trip at 3-4.
After an off day Thursday, the Explorers will have their home opener Friday at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time will be 7:05pm.
