Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

Grand Prairie let out a little early season frustration on the Shreveport-Bossier Captains this Wednesday afternoon. It was the first time this season that the AirHogs put up double digits in the run column, tripling the season high at 15.

The AirHogs(2-4) will play Shreveport-Bossier(3-3) 21 times this season, and after losing the first game of this three-game series, they made a familiar statement that resounded of last year's season series-Grand Prairie taking 14 of 16 games last year.

With two on and one out in the second, Brandon Carter drove in a run while grounding out to the first baseman to put the AirHogs on the board first, with Derek Nicholson coming around later to make it 2-0. The Captains answered with one in the bottom of the inning, and pretty much stopped there.

Grand Prairie unleashed on lefty Ronald Lowe, putting up a nine spot in the third, eventually running him out of the game with a nightmare line of 10 run on 10 hits, nine earned with a walk and a strikeout with only 2.1 innings of work. To lead off the inning, four straight reached with the first walk coming after the ‘Hogs already had a 4-1 lead.

Aaron Garza doubled down the left field line, followed by a David Espinoza RBI triple, then a Cesar Nicolas RBI single, Billy Munoz walked and JB Tucker singled before Nicholson flied out to left. Grand Prairie batted around and Josh Bone was summoned to finish the inning. The Captains responded by going in order for the first time in the game.

The AirHogs got a run in each of the next three innings making it 14-2, while holding Shreveport-Bossier to only three hits after the fifth, choking down any attempt at a comeback.

The bats did not over shadow Matt Green's performance who picked up the quality start going a full seven and allowing only two runs on eight hits, both earned. Luke Prihoda finished up, no-hitting the Captains, striking out two and walking one.

The Captains used five pitchers, with Robe Romero coming on in the ninth, giving up a home run to Nicolas. The oddity of the game was the amount of runs scored with the lack of long balls. Grand Prairie scored runs the old fashioned way with base hits and line drives.

Grand Prairie ended up with seven doubles scattered in 18 hits giving Green(1-1) the win and Lowe(0-2) the loss.

The AirHogs open at home this Friday, May 22nd at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Pensacola Pelicans. Visit www.airhogsbaseball.com for tickets and information.
