Fort Worth Cats News Release
Aaron Crow worked six shutout innings and John Allen homered as part of a four-hit day as the Cats defeated Sioux City 5-1 Wednesday afternoon at LaGrave Field.
In front of a crowd of 5,371 fans on FWISD Day, Crow did not allow a run, surrendered only three hits and struck out four en route to his second win of the year. Taylor Parker worked two scoreless innings in relief before the Explorers notched a run in the ninth to spoil what would have been the Cats' second straight shutout.
Fort Worth got on the board in the third inning as they led off the frame with three straight doubles, the last of which, off the bat of Ryan Patterson, brought home two. Later in the inning, Kelley Gulledge's sacrifice fly scored Patterson for a 3-0 lead.
The Cats added another run in the sixth inning as Isa Garcia's single brought home Aljay Davis. Allen's first home run of the season came in the seventh inning, a solo shot to leadoff the inning.
Leading 5-0 going to the ninth, Sioux City got an RBI single from Anthony Webster to end a string of 19 consecutive innings of shutout baseball.
Explorers' starter Curt Pasma (1-1) took the loss as he allowed four runs, two earned on eight hits in five innings of work.
Sparks flew in the game in the sixth inning as Crow hit Sioux City left fielder Carlos Arroyo with a 1-0 pitch. As Arroyo fell to the ground, his bat was propelled half way to the pitcher's mound, causing both benches to empty. Arroyo and Cats' pitching coach James Frisbie where both ejected during the incident.
After a 6-1 homestand and a three-game sweep of Sioux City, the Cats head to Lincoln for a three-game series beginning Friday night. Dan Grybash (1-0) will go for Fort Worth. Game time Friday is at 7:05 p.m.
