SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Mike Bisenius hit a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning to give the Explorers a 6-5 win over the RailCats and a victory in the three-game series. There were four lead changes in the tightly-contested series rubber match.
Wally Backman Jr. and Peter Barrows hit back-to-back doubles in the first off of RailCats starter Morgan Coombs to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead. Kris Sanchez added a sac fly to make it 2-0.
The RailCats plated a run in the second on a sac fly by Zac Mitchell. Mike Coles hit a two-out RBI single in the third to tie the game at two. The next hitter, Ryan Babineau, sent what looked like a routine fly ball to shallow center, but it was misjudged by Explorers center fielder Brandon Newton and fell for a double to score Coles and put the RailCats ahead 3-2.
Sioux City came back in the fourth, tying the game on a wild pitch by Coombs and then taking the lead on a two-out run-scoring single by Ryan Priddy.
Babineau hit a sac fly in the fifth to tie the game at four. Chris Carrara hit a go-ahead double in the sixth to put the RailCats back on top 5-4.
The Explorers took the lead for good in the seventh. With two on and two out, Mike Bisenius hit a two-run double to give the X's a 6-5 advantage.
The RailCats had the tying run at third with two out in the ninth, but Mike Massaro was called out on strikes to end the game.
Coombs (4-7) gave up six runs, five earned in 6 2/3 in the loss. Aaron Correa (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings for the win while Sioux City closer Chris Bodishbaugh picked up his 15th save.
The RailCats head home to begin a four-game series against the St. Paul Saints on Friday night at 7:10 at U. S. Steel Yard. There will be a post-game fireworks show and all proceeds from the tennis ball and Frisbee toss will go to the American Cancer Society. It is Greek and Negro League Night and ArcelorMittal will have a sunglasses giveaway to the first 1,000 kids.
