Hodsdon Brilliant In Complete Game Win Over Airhogs

El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX- Scott Hodsdon (6-2) pitched his second complete game of the season and won his sixth game in 2012 as the Diablos beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs by a final of 3-1 to earn the series victory.

Hodsdon did not allow a hit after the fifth inning, striking out three and walking two in a masterful 113-pitch effort. It is also the second consecutive outing in which Hodsdon has pitched at least nine innings--the Diablos ace went ten innings in a no decision against Amarillo on July 27.

The right-hander allowed his only run in the third inning and did not let another runner reach scoring position the rest of the evening.

On offense, the Diablos got early contribution from one of their newest pickups, Fernando Valenzuela Jr. Valenzuela singled in two runs in the first inning off Josh Strawn (6-4) to stake El Paso to an early lead and give Hodsdon all the run support he would need.

The Diablos added one more run in the sixth on Jermy Acey's RBI single.

Hodsdon walked one in the ninth inning but got James McOwen to hit into the game-ending double play.

The Diablos are 31-37 entering a key three game road series with the Amarillo Sox. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. MST).
