
Explorers continue hot hitting in 7-1 win over yellow birds

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers continued their hot hitting on the way to a 7-1 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries here tonight. Tom Lipari made his second start of the season and picked up the win by allowing only one run in 7.2 innings of work while Evan Greusel took the loss for the Canaries.
The Explorers started the scoring off in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryan Gripp reached on a throwing error by Canaries the shortstop and Jorge Moreno followed with a double to give the X's their first run. Newcomer Kevin Henry then smashed a double to center field that drove in Moreno to give Sioux City a 2-0 advantage. Sioux City struck again in the fifth the X's had runners at the corners and Dan Meier grounded a ball to Ralph Santana who threw the ball away on the attempted double play. Ryan Ruiz and Julius Thames managed to score on the play upping the lead to 4.
The Explorers finished things off in the seventh when Dan Meier hit his first home run of the season to put the Explorers up 6-0. Gripp and Moreno then followed with back-to-back doubles for a 7-0 lead.
The Bird's managed to get a run across off Lipari in the top of the 8th, but Billy Keppinger and John Howerton turn the Canaries back to secure the win.
The I-29 rivals will wrap-up the four-game series on Thursday night in Sioux City. After that, the X's hit the road for a six game road trip in which they will visit St. Paul and Lincoln.
