St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - Adam Olow, Rob Fischer and Mike Meyer made sure there was no last second drama at Midway Stadium Wednesday night.
After two games in a row in which St. Paul scored two runs in the ninth to claim victory, Olow and Fischer went 3-for-4 with two RBI each and Meyer became the first American Association pitcher to go more than seven innings in a 7-2 romp before a sellout crowd of 6,237 fans.
St. Paul, which has won five games in a row after losing the season opener at Sioux City, will go for the four-game sweep Thursday night at Midway against the expansion Blacksnakes, who fell to 1-5.
Olow got the Saints going early with a RBI single in the first inning off losing pitcher Evan Thomas (0-1). He added another RBI hit and Fischer boomed the season's first triple to score a pair in a five-run third inning that put the game out of reach early. Jeremy Frost added a single to stretch his hitting streak to six games in a row as St. Paul banged out 13 hits.
That was more than enough for Meyer (1-1), who went 7.2 innings to get the win. He retired the first 10 batters he faced, eventually giving up two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts before leaving in favor of reliever Kevin Rival.
St. Paul will send righthander Justin Lord (1-0) to the mound in Thursday's series finale against St. Joseph's Jamie Tricoglou (1-0). Game time is 7:05 p.m.
