ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, announced the signing of forward Chaz Johnson and defenseman Jordan Hill to standard player contracts for the 2010-11 season.
Johnson, 26, spent the last three seasons with the Elmira Jackals (ECHL) in which time he recorded 82 points (38g, 44a) and 407 penalty minutes in 117 games. He was called up to the Binghamton Senators (AHL) for 48 games in that period and had six points (1g, 5a) and 55 penalty minutes with the club. The feisty right winger reached the playoffs with the Jackals in all three seasons and tallied 17 points (7g, 10a) and 46 penalty minutes in 20 games.
The Montreal native scored one goal and spent 15 minutes in the penalty box over 16 AHL games with various teams during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Teams included the Milwaukee Admirals, Rochester Americans, Hershey Bears, and the Senators.
Prior to joining the AHL, Johnson played two seasons with the Rockford Ice Hogs of the UHL. He scored 71 points (37g, 34a) and had 361 penalty minutes in 111 regular season games and added 22 points (12g, 10a) and 39 penalty minutes in 26 playoff games. His UHL career culminated with winning the Colonial Cup Championship with the Ice Hogs in the 2006-07 season.
Johnson played junior hockey with the Rimouski Oceanic, Val d'Or Foreurs and Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL from 2001-2005. He totaled 92 points (42g, 50a) and 543 penalty minutes in 220 regular season games and five points (3g, 2a) and 43 penalty minutes in 29 playoff games.
Defenseman Jordan Hill, 21, joins the Reign for his first full professional season after playing two games with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL to finish his 2008-09 season.
The Sarnia, Ontario native started his junior career in 2007 with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. He played with the Sting for all of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, as well as part of 2009-10 before being traded to the Saginaw Spirit where he completed the season.
He finished his junior career with 65 points (16g, 49a) and 171 penalty minutes in 201 regular season contests and three points (2g, 1a) and 12 penalty minutes in 18 playoff appearances.
The Reign begins its third season, presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, on Saturday, October 23, 2010 against the Stockton Thunder at 7:00 PM.
