Let There be Ice

Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, announced that the ice surface at Citizens Business Bank Arena is being put down, a signal that the third season of Reign hockey is only several weeks away.

The process started Sunday morning with the application of three 1/64 inch layers of water to the grey concrete base. Three layers of white ice paint were added and sealed in with six additional water applications. A perforated patter of the Reign logo was laid out, chalk was sprinkled across the pattern and was designated paint colors were applied according to a diagram. "It's much like paint by numbers," said Citizens Business Bank Arena Ice Rink Supervisor, Michael Stuever. "Several coats of water were added to seal in the logos and complete the playing surface."

It took approximately 15,000 gallons of water to create the ice sheet - that's 125,000 bottles of water. The 62 ton surface will be ready for skating Tuesday. Though this was no Mickey Mouse operation, Mickey and company will take the ice before the Reign, as Citizens Business Bank Arena is set to host Disney on Ice before Reign hockey makes its debut.

The Reign begins its third season, presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, on Saturday, on October 23, 2010 against the Stockton Thunder at 7:00 PM. Individual tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office or online at www.ontarioreign.com . Call the Reign front office for more information at (909) 941-PUCK (7825).
