Everett Silvertips News Release

KENT, Wash. - Mathew Barzal scored twice and the Everett Silvertips were unable to get any of their 24 shots past Landon Bow, falling 2-0 to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday before a crowd of 5,586 at ShoWare Center on Saturday.

Carter Hart, who missed over nine minutes of action to recover from an apparent injury after taking a shot up high by Ryan Gropp, returned at the beginning of a Seattle power play and stabilized the Tips with 19 saves. The loss for the Silvertips was their first in regulation to the Thunderbirds in over a year (Feb. 21, 2015), ending the evening at 6-1-1 this season.

The clubs will meet two more times in the regular season, with the Tips holding a three point lead for first place in the U.S. Division over Seattle.

Everett led in shots, 7-5 in the first period but fell behind on Brazil's goal, off a late two-on-one, with 4:04 left in the first period.

The Silvertips nearly cashed in on three high-grade looks in the second period, notably a shot by Remi Laurencelle that buzzed the upper blocker corner on Landon Bow but sailed wide. Hart's absence galvanized the Tips, allowing no shots to the net during Mario Petit's spot duty and a 10-7 lead in shots for the second period.

Early in the third period, Cole MacDonald and Carson Stadnyk nearly missed tying the game on deflections at the net that sailed high, and a timeout with 1:50 left in regulation put the Silvertips up six-on-five with Hart pulled. Seattle jumped on a center ice turnover, and Donovan Neuls fed Barzal for the empty netter with 48 seconds left.
